WallHiker W-05 Automate Grinding and Sanding Robot
WallHiker W-05 is a versatile robot designed to gently clean, texturize, and roughen a surface without removing the underlying material or base coating. It is primarily used to prepare substrates like galvanized steel or existing paints for subsequent topcoats. The roughening process uses mechanical grinding (angle grinder) to create a uniform, rough anchor profile on the originally smooth steel plate or painted surface.
Key Application Senario: Large steel structures such as ship hulls and oil tanks, especially newly built ships and oil tanks, the steel surface must be roughened before painting.

Why roughen the surface?
To remove surface defects and contaminants, ensuring a strong bond between the old and new coatings after recoating.
1. Before painting, the contaminants can affect paint adhesion (dust, rust, etc.), which can be removed during the roughening process.
2. The robot mechanically sanding the existing coating to roughen its surface and remove contaminants, ensure effective adhesion of the following layer of new paint.

Why Weld Cleaning Is Critical in Shipbuilding and Tank Construction?
Welding plays a vital role in large steel structures, such as shipbuilding and storage tank construction.
WallHiker W-05 is also used for cleaning and preparing welded joints on ship hulls plates and storage tank shells.
Mechanical methods remain the workhorse of weld cleaning for shipbuilding and tank construction on carbon steel structures. Tank plates, hull plates, bulkheads, and heavy structural members don’t demand the polished finish that stainless steel piping does. They’re getting coated with primer and anti-fouling paint anyway. What matters is removing slag, spatter, and oxide scale so coatings adhere properly — and mechanical tools do that fast. W-05 automated grinding process is 5x faster than traditional manual grinding tools.
